Corey Metzman of Penn Named a 2011 Truman Scholar
PHILADELPHIA -- Corey Metzman, a junior at the University of Pennsylvania, has been awarded a 2011 Truman Scholarship.Metzman, who is pursuing a dual degree in Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences and Wharton School through the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business, has traveled extensively for his studies and research.

Two Penn Campus Renovation Projects Garner LEED Gold Designations
PHILADELPHIA -- Two recent renovations on the University of Pennsylvania campus have been certified LEED Gold this month by the U.S. Green Building Council: The School of Arts and Sciences’ Music Building at 202 S. 34th St., and Joe’s Café, a new eatery in the Wharton School’s Steinberg-Dietrich Hall.

Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs’ 2011 Business Plan Competition Chooses 26 Semi-Finalists
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announces that the Wharton Business Plan Competition has chosen its 26 semi-finalists. The semi-finalists of the Competition, which is open to any University of Pennsylvania student and managed by Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs, will compete for $116,000 in prizes and the chance to present full business plans at the annual Venture Finals on April 27, 2011.

2011 Thouron Awardees Are Selected
CURF is proud to announce a Penn record-tying 7 Thouron Award winners! Grace Ambrose will graduate in 2011 from the College of Arts & Sciences with a BA in the History of Art, as well as a minor in Creative Writing. She has worked at the Whitney Museum in New York and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, and plans to study Curation while in the UK.

Penn, Wharton Get $6.5 Million Gift From Barry R. Lipman for Lipman Family Prize in Leadership, Innovation
The University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School are pleased to announce a $6.5 million gift from Barry R. Lipman to establish the Lipman Family Prize. Awarded annually, the Prize will recognize and amplify the work of an organization devoted to positive social impact and the creation of sustainable solutions to significant social and economic challenges. Lipman, W’70, is a co-founder of Goldfarb & Lipman (now Goldfarb Lipman, a leading California law firm).

Six New Penn Fellows Announced
PHILADELPHIA – Six faculty members at the University of Pennsylvania have been named Penn Fellows for 2011. The announcement was made by Vincent Price, Penn provost, and Lynn Hollen Lees, vice provost for faculty. They are: • Vijay Balasubramanian, Merriam Term Associate Professor of Physics in the School of Arts and Sciences and a theoretical physicist who specializes in string theory, black holes, quantum gravity and applications of neuroscience.

University of Pennsylvania Names Two New PIK Professors: Barbara Mellers and Philip Tetlock
PHILADELPHIA -- Barbara Mellers and Philip Tetlock have been appointed Penn Integrates Knowledge professors at the University of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made today by Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price. Both PIK appointments are effective Jan. 1.

Penn IUR Report on Vacant Land Management Released
PHILADELPHIA- The 40,000 vacant parcels in Philadelphia cause $3.6 billion in reduced property values, cost more than $20 million per year in city maintenance and nets the city $70 million less in property taxes, according to a report on the vacant land management system in Philadelphia released this month by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia.
