Penn IUR Report on Vacant Land Management Released
PHILADELPHIA- The 40,000 vacant parcels in Philadelphia cause $3.6 billion in reduced property values, cost more than $20 million per year in city maintenance and nets the city $70 million less in property taxes, according to a report on the vacant land management system in Philadelphia released this month by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia.

Penn Graduate School of Education Opens Business Plan Competition Submissions; Top Prize $25,000
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and the Milken Family Foundation have announced that the 2011 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition is open for submissions. Entering its second year, this global competition is the first contest specifically aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship and addressing challenges in education. It is designed to connect social entrepreneurs to venture capitalists and other funders interested in improving education.

Wharton School Announces $15 Million Gift From Patty and Jay H. Baker to Establish Retailing Center
Philadelphia, PA—The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce a $15 million gift from Patty and Jay H. Baker to permanently endow the Jay H. Baker Retailing Center. Jay Baker, W’56, is a member of the Wharton Board of Overseers and retired president and director of Kohl’s Corporation, the Milwaukee-based department store chain.

Wharton School to Host 2011 Global Alumni Forum in San Francisco
Philadelphia and San Francisco – The Wharton School announced that, for the first time in the history of the Wharton Global Alumni Forums, the School next year will combine the three regional Forums into a single event, to be held in San Francisco on June 23-24, 2011. Wharton School Announces Partnership With Sovereign Bank, Santander Universities
The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the establishment of a Partnership for Globalization with Sovereign Bank, part of Banco Santander. Former Philadelphia Managing Director Camille Cates Barnett To Become Penn IUR Scholar
Today, Eugenie Birch and Susan Wachter, co-directors of the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) announced that Dr. Camille Cates Barnett, formerly Managing Director of the City of Philadelphia, will become a Penn IUR Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. With support of a William Penn Foundation grant to Penn IUR, Dr. Barnett will research best practices and innovations in urban governance, as well as pen articles on those topics and guest lecture in Penn IUR’s undergraduate urban research colloquium.

Making History Campaign Co-Chair Makes $5 Million Gift to Endow University PIK Professorship
PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania Trustee Robert M. Levy and Diane v.S. Levy have made a $5 million gift designated for faculty support. The gift will be used to endow a Penn Integrates Knowledge Professorship, which will be named the Diane v.S. and Robert M. Levy University Professorship.The announcement was made by Penn President Amy Gutmann.
