Richards & Steiner's "The Loathly Lady" Opera Premieres in Philadelphia at University of Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA –- “The Loathly Lady,” an original, sung-through comic opera conceived at the cusp of musical theater, will premiere April 1 in Philadelphia for one night only at Irvine Auditorium, 3401 Spruce St. on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The premiere is the gala finale of the Penn Humanities Forum’s 2008-2009 10th-anniversary year.

Penn GSE Professors Study College Success for IB Students: Do Accelerated Programs Offer an Edge?
PHILADELPHIA — Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education announced today that they have received a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences to study the relationship between an accelerated high school curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and college-related outcomes. The study involves analyses of 12 years of data from the Florida K-20 Data Warehouse and the National Student Clearinghouse.

Innovation Fund provides financial support to Penn student entrepreneurs
By The Current Staff Entrepreneurs at Penn with a promising idea may acquire important early-stage assistance from the Weiss Tech House Innovation Fund. The mini-venture capital fund provides student inventors with grants of up to $1,000 to help develop their product or service. Judging criteria is based on the level of innovation in each proposal, be it a seemingly simple concept or a technologically complex product.

Penn Museum to Open "Painted Metaphors: Pottery and Politics of the Ancient Maya"
PHILADELPHIA –- A world-renowned collection of ancient Maya painted pottery, excavated by the University of Pennsylvania Museum nearly a century ago and reinterpreted in light of recent research, provides the centerpiece for “Painted Metaphors: Pottery and Politics of the Ancient Maya,” an exhibition opening at Penn Museum April 5 and running through December before beginning a multi-city national tour.
