Enhanced Treatment Capabilities Featured at Penn Dental School's New Schattner Center
WHO: Faculty, staff, students and alumni of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine will join Penn Trustees and invited guests to open the Schattner Center.
WHAT: A dedication and tours of the newest building in the Dental School complex, the Schattner Center. The three-story, 70,000-square-foot building houses a new oral-surgery center, a new oral-medicine clinic for treating medically complex patients, a new admissions/emergency clinic and the campus locations of the Penn dental faculty practice.
WHERE: Atrium entrance of the new building at 240 S. 40th St.
WHEN: 12:15-2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1 -- Trustees/President Luncheon; 2:30-5 p.m. the building is open for guided tours.
HIGHLIGHTS of the Schattner Center:
- Will have a new oral-surgery center that heightens the level of surgical care delivered at the Dental School. Many procedures previously performed only in a hospital setting can now be handled at the school; three of the seven operatories are equipped as minor operating rooms for more advanced cases.
- Features an oral-medicine clinic designed to treat medically complex patients, including those with HIV, heart disease or organ transplants.
- Joins the few dental schools in the nation to have an in-house instrument management and sterilization facility.
- Is wired for the future implementation of digital radiography, the newest imaging technology available.
- Serves as the main entrance, unifying all Dental School buildings and services; includes a courtyard gathering area and coffee shop.
