On Friday, March 28, the Master of Chemistry Education program at the University of Pennsylvania will host 24 secondary science teachers from across the U.S. in a laboratory workshop as part of the National Science Teachers Association national convention being held in Philadelphia March 27-30.
Teachers will conduct experiments in the morning on either classification of substances, identification of over-the-counter drugs or heat of combustion of a candle. All three labs are suitable for use in high school chemistry classes.
The MCE program, a joint effort of Penn's Department of Chemistry and Graduate School of Education, is now in its third year. Last year the program graduated its first class of educators.
