New VP for Finance and Treasurer of the University

Craig Carnaroli (W’85) has been named Vice President for Finance and Treasurer of the University. As Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, Carnaroli oversees the offices of the Comptroller, Treasurer, Investments, Student Financial Services, Risk Management, Research Services and Acquisition Services.

Carnaroli served as the director of the health care finance department at Merrill Lynch & Co., where he raised more than $5 billion in capital for nonprofit educational and health care institutions. He spent the past year advising Penn and its Health System on a broad range of financial issues.

Linda Brown (GNu’78, GrN’85), Ph.D., FAAN, RN, the Miriam Stirl Professor in Nutrition, has been appointed Associate Dean and Director for Undergraduate Studies. Besides her commitment to mentoring new nurses by including junior faculty, graduate students and undergraduates in her extensive research, Brown has also served as codirector of the Center for Low Birthweight Research and chair of the Nursing School’s Health Care of Women & Childbearing Families Division.

Joyce Thompson, D.P.H., CNM, FAAN, RN, has been appointed Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Professional Development in the School of Nursing. Thompson joined Penn in 1979 as an instructor and director of the Nurse-Midwifery Graduate Program. Thompson is also currently director of several midwifery programs, including the School’s World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Nursing and Midwifery Leadership and the International Confederation of Midwives.

Shalini Dev Bhutani, Ph.D., has been named Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services in the Office of International Programs. She had been senior advisor for programs in the office, initiating support programs to enhance the academic achievements of international students and conducting national workshops and symposia on achievement and cultural adaptation.
Bhutani, a faculty fellow of the Center for the Advanced Study of India, replaces Ann H. Kuhlman, now director of Yale’s newly reorganized Office of International Students and Scholars.
