Look what Phillies centerfielder Doug Glanville (EAS’93) found when he went rummaging through the University of Pennsylvania Museum’s vast storerooms: a Teotihuacan jadelite mask from Central Mexico, dating back to the second century A.D.
Glanville is one of 22 notables the Museum invited to pick out their favorite treasures for its special exhibit “44 Celebrity Eyes in a Museum Storeroom,” on display through Dec. 30. The celebrity curators come from all walks of life and all over the world: investing guru Peter Lynch (WG’68), cellist Yo-Yo Ma, city planner Edmund Bacon (Hon’80) and his actor son Kevin, Princess Maha Chakri Srindhorn of Thailand and Sesame Street’s Big Bird, among others, all have their favorite Museum pieces on display.

The exhibit coincides with the start of construction on the Museum’s new Mainwaring Wing, a state-of-the-art storage and research facility that will keep Glanville’s mask and the rest of the Museum’s collection intact for years to come.
