Summer daze

On one of the last days of finals, our correspondent stepped onto campus to find out what amusements and employments Penn students have lined up for the summer months. With the bulk of finals behind them, the students seemed to walk more slowly, to smile more. The afternoon sun suffused Locust Walk with a lazy, partial light. Summer was definitely on its way.

TORI KATZ, COLLEGE ’01
“After I graduate, I’m going to attempt to find a job. I’m applying to magazines in New York.”

MIKE EPSTEIN, COLLEGE ’00
“Trying to finish my two incompletes. They’re two years old by this point. They’re both for the same professor, but he’s my advisor so it’s okay. I finished my undergraduate work last May but I haven’t graduated yet because I want grades in these classes.”

DARI YUDKOFF, COLLEGE ’02
“I work at this camp called Seeds of Peace. It’s a conflict resolution camp for kids from countries where there’s conflict: Israel/ Palestine, India/Pakistan, Cypress, and the Balkans. Oh, and Greece and Turkey. This is my second year working there. The kids that come are incredible.”

CAROLINA RAMIREZ, COLLEGE ’03
“I’m taking summer classes at Penn till June 30. Then I’ll be working in Martha’s Vineyard in July. I might waitress or something, just hang out with friends at the beach. And in August I’m going to Europe.”

HILARY TANENBAUM, COLLEGE ’04
“I’m taking economics and musical theater at NYU. Economics my parents are making me take because they think it’s good for me.”

KATRINA JONES, COLLEGE ’01
“I am going home to Miami and living off my parents for two months until I go to graduate school for education. Where are you going to grad school? Here. I can’t get enough of Penn. [laughs] I can never get enough of Penn.”

RUDY RAMIREZ, COLLEGE ’02
“I’m doing the Penn-in-London program. It’s summer school, only in a really cool place. Great, I’ll write that down. I used to work on yearbook, so I know how to make myself quotable.”

LEN PODOLSKY, COLLEGE ’02
“Assistant trader with Susquehanna Partners in Bala Cynwyd.”

SUSAN COOK, COLLEGE ’03
“Working at CBS in New York! I’ll be working for the ‘Sunday Morning’ show with Charles Osgood. I think I’m really going to get a taste for New York City. I’ve heard it’s pretty wild and fun. I have this image of New York, bright lights, Frank Sinatra, action people. I want to see if it’s real.”

ANNI BATZEL, COLLEGE ’03
“I think I’m going to work at a camp in Maine. I don’t know the name of it. It’s a Christian camp, so I’ll be doing Bible studies, camp counselor type things and hopefully kayaking.”
