College Houses get new staff
Along with a host of new freshmen at the College Houses this fall, there are some new faces among the staff.
Faculty masters
Dennis DeTurck, Ph.D., chair of the Math Department, will serve as interim faculty master of Stouffer College House for one year while Philip Nicols, Ph.D. is on academic leave.
DeTurck’s research interests include partial differential equations and differential geometry as well as improving the teaching of math in high school.
Alan Strudler, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Legal Studies in the Wharton School, is now faculty master of Harrison College House. Strudler and his wife, Eleonora Curlo, Ph.D., have lived in Harrison since 1998. Strudler also previously served as faculty fellow and now teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in business ethics and negotiation.
House deans
Alton C. Strange is the new house dean for Spruce College House. Strange has served as a graduate assistant at the W.E.B. DuBois College House since 1997 and most recently coordinated the Penn pre-freshman summer program in Academic Support Services.
Patricia C. Williams, previously a managing editor of Umoja News, is now house dean of W.E.B. DuBois House. Williams, who taught composition and rhetoric at Fordham University, has published poems in anthologies and has organized poetry readings in schools and libraries.
Senior fellow
Srilata Gangulee, Ph.D., a member of the Penn community since 1994, is now senior fellow at Harrison House. Gangulee, assistant dean for academic advising in the College of Arts and Sciences, works closely with the Puente Group for Crossing the Digital Divide and is founder of the Bengali School of Philadelphia.
