Franklin Field Press Box

Early last century, sportswriters at Franklin Field had it tough: They had to dictate stories, by phone, from an open-air press box atop the old stadium’s single-deck wooden stands.
At this Penn vs. Cornell football game, the two reporters closest to the camera are using old-fashioned telephones; the man in the center of the photo is seated at a telegraph. The next year, college football would give sportswriters plenty to write about, including the introduction for the forward pass. By the way, the Quakers won this game by a score of 21-9.
