Pre-orientation programs introduce incoming freshmen to Penn

Five pre-orientation programs are giving some incoming freshmen a jump on the University experience before the school year begins.

PennGreen (pictured), a four-day, environmentally focused program, introduces 40 incoming first-years to “green” Penn and the city, and includes visits to the Morris Arboretum and Mill Creek Urban Farm, and overnight camping at Gifford Pinchot State Park.

PennQuest is a four-day outdoor program for 120 freshmen that features a two-and-a-half day hiking and camping trip in the Poconos. The program is designed to help students build positive relationships and develop self-confidence.

The PennArts program introduces 40 students to the vast artistic offerings at Penn and in Philadelphia, and includes classes with master teachers in theater, visual arts and music.

PENNacle is a program for 60 members of the Class of 2013 who will learn about student leadership at Penn, group dynamics, leadership style, teambuilding and Penn traditions.

Finally, PennCORP is an educational program that immerses nearly 30 students in their new surroundings through community service projects, discussions and activities.

Pre-orientation programs kick off on Aug. 30 and 31 and end on Sept. 3, at the beginning of New Student Orientation for all freshmen.
