As part of Penn’s commitment to providing children with positive and productive experiences early in their lives, the University will host Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 22, an annual event that encourages, inspires and introduces the sons and daughters of the Penn community to the workplace.

Faculty and staff will have the opportunity to bring children ages 9 to 15 to Penn’s campus to enjoy an exciting array of events and activities.

Participants can start the day off at the PennCard Center, where children can get a free customized souvenir Penn KidsCard, complete with photo, to commemorate their day on campus. Parents or guardians will also get a coupon for 20 percent off any children’s or youth item at the Penn Bookstore.

While in the PennCard Center, kids can visit the PNC Bank customer service representative for a free financial goody bag, which includes pens, a key chain and a PNC Grow Up Great Savings Register.

At the Penn Museum’s “Athletics in the Ancient World,” children can search for objects in the galleries relating to ancient athletics and compare them to the Penn Relays underway at Franklin Field.

For a tasty treat, the children can stop by Houston Market, where Penn Dining is hosting a cupcake decorating demonstration led by Bon Appétit.
Teens and preteens can get an early start on thinking about tomorrow at Career Services’ “Five Steps to Career Discovery.” Kelly Cleary and Rosette Pyne from Career Services will provide adolescents with a framework and tips to begin thinking about what they want to do with their lives.

For more than 16 years, individuals, families, organizations and workplaces have participated in the national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day to expand opportunities and transform the lives of millions of girls and boys.

Ken Edwards, the coordinator of Penn’s Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, says a number of departments and organizations at the University enjoy presenting special programs and activities for the young guests of faculty and staff throughout the day.

Parents or guardians must pre-register their children in order for them to participate in the day’s activities. Registration begins on Thursday, April 8, at 9 a.m.
