James Serpell and Cynthia Otto of the School of Veterinary Medicine shared their experiences with Flyball, a competitive sport for dogs. Serpell said that regularly exercising pets benefits owners too, “because when your dog is home he or she will be calmer or less of a nuisance.”

Joseph Turow of the Annenberg School for Communication discussed the results of his new poll on surveillance. The study found that “political affiliation is a main predictor of Americans’ emotional reactions to surveillance,” with Democrats being more likely to feel negatively about surveillance and Republicans more likely to feel positively about it.

The Law School’s Sarah Paoletti explained how people escaping labor trafficking can unwittingly violate their visas, leaving them vulnerable to deportation. Paoletti recommended that rescue operations take a “victim-centered approach” in order to prevent re-trafficking.

Penn Study Points to Why T-Cell Therapy Fails in Some Patients
Penn Medicine researchers have found that patients who respond well to T-cell therapy have an existing supply of “memory” T cells, which support the immune system. Joseph Fraietta of the Perelman School of Medicine, who authored the study, said that the study’s findings may pave the way for the creation of synthetic memory T cells through genetic engineering.
