A college preview for community youth

Students from Sayre Middle School in West Philadelphia took a cram course in college life on Feb. 27, taught by members of the Kite and Key Society and Penn's chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.

The day began with breakfast and a welcome from Community Relations Director Glenn Bryan, after which the Sayre students attended classes with their Penn student hosts.

The rest of the day was spent in activities that combined fun with education. Pete Gutherie (C'99) led the students on a "scavenger hunt" that doubled as a tour of the Penn campus, and after lunch, the students toured the University of Pennsylvania Museum. The day ended with an interactive Internet demonstration led by SWE members Jenny Li (EAS'00) and Juliet Bourne (GrE'00).

The Sayre students' visit was part of the ongoing Communiversity Day program coordinated by the Office of Community Relations.
