Clearing out the cob-Webs: A couple of popular Penn Web sites have undergone early spring cleaning with updated interfaces.

The Penn Library’s Web site (www.library.upenn.edu) got a facelift Feb. 3. The home page design incorporates some of the new Penn Web design elements while keeping the overall feel of the old site. You can also now search the library’s electronic collections as well as the Franklin online catalog from the home page.

Meanwhile, the University of Pennsylvania Museum’s site (www.museum.upenn.edu), launched Jan. 23, received a total makeover. The redesigned site includes a more informative and user-friendly “Visit Us” section, news and event highlights on the home page, and easier access to information about Museum events, activities, collections and research.

Make book on this: Do you know “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci”? You would have by now if you had been participating in the Penn Professional Staff Assembly Book Club, which discussed that book earlier this year. The group, formed last year, meets monthly to discuss current books. Meetings take place from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in the author event area of the Penn Bookstore, on the second floor behind the music department. This month’s book, which will be discussed March 5, is “How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents” by Julia Alvarez. Members get a 10 percent discount on the book of the month at the Bookstore. A Bridge to the Film Fest: Buzz received a press release from the Philadelphia Film Festival folks last month saying that a “state-of-the-art venue” would be added to this year’s screening sites. We are now able to confirm that that venue is The Bridge at 40th and Walnut. Festival Media Relations Director Andy Preis says the cinema will be one of the festival’s main venues, with daily screenings. Want to get into the festival for free? The organizers are looking for volunteers. Calling all cricket fans: If you, like David Ferreira (“Student Spotlight,” Current, Feb. 13), want to follow the Cricket World Cup, you can, at the Graduate Student Center (GSC), 3615 Locust Walk. Most games are being shown on tape delay, but for selected matches, the center will be open at 3 a.m. to show them live via satellite. As space is limited, tickets will be sold for these matches; if any remain after graduate students and their guests have had a shot at them, you will be able to buy them at the door on the day of the event. The GSC’s general event Web site, http://www.upenn.edu/gsc/programs/general_gsc_prog.htm, is updated daily to reflect the latest schedule information, so be sure to check there often to find out when your team’s matches will be screened.
