Penn is playing a starring role in this year’s Philadelphia Film Festival. More than half the films in the festival are being screened at venues on or near campus and Penn experts are on hand, too, to discuss the movies at a series of Cine Cafes. These free informal discussions, with complimentary refreshments, enhance the filmgoing experience and are led by Penn movie mavens in the departments of Cinema Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Music.

Monday, April 3

• Timothy Corrigan, director of the Cinema Studies Program and Professor in the English Department leads a discussion about the documentary. 5 p.m. at the Last Word Bookshop, 3925 Walnut St.

Friday, April 7

• Associate Director of the Cinema Studies Program Nicola M. Gentili chats about regional filmmaking. 5 p.m. at Voices and Visions, The Bourse, 4th Street, Lower level.

Monday, April 10

• Peter Decherney, assistant professor of English and Cinema Studies, discusses the business of film. 5 p.m. at Penn Bookstore, 2nd Floor, 3601 Walnut St.

Thursday, April 11

• David Copenhafer, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Music, leads a discussion about music and film. 5 p.m. at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
