Shortly after campus was depopulated in mid-March, University archivist J.M Duffin and colleagues created the Penn COVID-19 Community Archiving Project. The goal, is to collect diverse voices and experiences for future historians, educators, and health experts to learn from.

Associate dean and executive director of the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice John Hollway has been named to the Prosecutor Wellbeing Task Force of the National District Attorneys Association. The task force is designed to develop and disseminate resources, training, and peer-to-peer exchanges for prosecutors across the country to promote their health and wellbeing.

Tyshawn Sorey, who recently joined Penn as Assistant Professor of Music, has been named Presidential Assistant Professor of Music. The Presidential Professorships are five-year term chairs, awarded by Penn President Amy Gutmann to outstanding scholars.

Emily Wilson, College for Women Class of 1963 Term Professor in the Humanities, has made a gift to endow The Elsie Phare Fellowship, a fund that supports underrepresented students enrolled in the post-baccalaureate program in the Department of Classical Studies.

Weinstein received the award for “Centering: A Framework for Modeling the Local Coherence of Discourse,” a paper he coauthored. The article, which was published in Computational Linguistics in June 1995, examines relationships among focus of attention, choice of referring expression, and perceived coherence of utterances within a discourse segment

The assistant professor of psychology, was named one of 13 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar. CIFAR, a Canadian-based global research organization, funds and supports early-career researchers to help them become leaders in global research.

The Queen’s College at University of Oxford recognized Barbara Savage, Geraldine R. Segal Professor of American Social Thought and Professor of Africana Studies, with an undergraduate prize named in her honor. The Barbara Savage Prize will be awarded annually to the student with the best thesis in Black history.

The head of Penn’s Chemistry Library, was elected to the 2020 class of American Chemical Society Fellows for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science. Currano was elected in recognition of her devotion to teaching chemical information and making it accessible to all, her status as an international leader in chemical information, and for her service as a mentor to women in science and as Chair of the ACS Committee on Ethics.

A new initiative hopes to address the disparities in diversity in neuroscience—Black in Neuro. Debuted on Twitter this summer, the initiative was organized by 22 graduate students, postdocs and professionals from universities and institutions around the world to highlight Black excellence in the field.
