Catastrophic Flooding May Be More Predictable After Penn Researchers Build a Mini River Delta
PHILADELPHIA –- An interdisciplinary team of physicists and geologists led by the University of Pennsylvania has made a major step toward predicting where and how large floods occur on river deltas and alluvial fans.In a laboratory, researchers created a miniature river delta that replicates flooding patterns seen in natural rivers, resulting in a mathematical model capable of aiding in the prediction of the next catastrophic flood.

Jazz great Ramsey Lewis visits Penn
Composer, pianist and jazz legend Ramsey Lewis will visit Penn’s campus March 17-19 as the Spring 2010 Artist in Residence for Penn’s Center for Africana Studies. Lewis, who has three Grammy Awards and seven gold records, is known for his on-stage performance style and his selections that display a firm knowledge of gospel, classical and jazz music.

Penn Biologist David S. Roos Elected to the American Academy of Microbiology

Penn Center for Africana Studies Hosts Ramsey Lewis as Artist in Residence for Series of Public Master Classes
PHILADELPHIA -- Jazz legend Ramsey Lewis will be the Spring 2010 Artist in Residence for the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Africana Studies. The composer and pianist will visit Penn’s campus March 17-19.Lewis, who has three Grammy Awards and seven gold records, is known for a performance style and musical selections that display his early gospel roots, classical training, love of jazz and fondness for other musical forms.
