Eric J. Furda, vice president for alumni relations and former executive director of undergraduate admissions at Columbia University, has been named dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania. Furda, a 1987 Penn graduate, will assume his position as dean on July 1, 2008.

PHILADELPHIA –- The Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania will present a series of free public lectures exploring the early Jewish experience entitled “Beginnings: Jews, Christians and the Roman Empire.”Natalie B. Dohrmann, executive editor of The Jewish Quarterly Review will kick off the series with a talk on “Jews, Christians and the Roman Empire: An Introduction” on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, 420 Walnut St.

PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has joined with more than 100 colleges and universities in RecyleMania, a friendly competition to help reduce waste. From Jan. 28 to April 1, campuses across the country will compete to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables and the least amount of trash per capita. There will also be a competition for the highest recycling rate.
