NEW YORK -- Washington Post columnist Mary McGrory is the recipient of this year's John Chancellor Award for Excellence in Journalism. The award, administered by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will be presented November 12 at a black-tie dinner at The Pierre hotel in New York.

PHILADELPHIA - A team of University of Pennsylvania students has set off to compete this weekend in the preliminary legs of the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest, a worldwide competition established almost 30 years ago. The event is to be held tomorrow at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

PHILADELPHIA - An international meeting on the role of information and communications technologies in youth and adult education will be held Nov. 12-14 at the University of Pennsylvania."ICT in Non-formal and Adult Education: Supporting Out-of-School Youth and Adults" is the sixth in a series organized by Penn's Graduate School of Education and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris. Attendees will be from the Americas, Australia, Europe, Africa and Asia.

WHAT:The unveiling of the Women's Sculpture Project that has transformed the Hill Field open space bounded by 33rd, 34th, Walnut and Chestnut streets into Hill Square, a gateway to the University of Pennsylvania campus. Landscaping and lighting accentuate a diagonal walkway integrated with 25 Years,a sculpture by Jenny Holzer comprised of granite elements inscribed with text commemorating 125 years of women at the University.

PHILADELPHIA - Perry Molinoff, a renowned neuroscientist and the former chairman of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named vice provost for research at Penn, effective immediately, according to an announcement by Provost Robert L. Barchi. Molinoff was the A.N. Richards Professor and Chairman of Pharmacology at Penn from 1981 to 1995.
