Researchers Say Cooperation Is Key to Reducing Greenhouse Gases
PHILADELPHIA — A study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Delaware shows that cooperation between local and regional governments and organizations is crucial to achieve carbon-reduction goals being negotiated in the Copenhagen Conference of the Parties, or COP15, summit.

Penn Freshman’s Entry in Nickelodeon Animation Festival Is a Finalist; Voting Continues through Nov. 29

Penn School of Design Professor Terry Adkins Wins Rome Prize in Visual Arts
PHILADELPHIA -- Terry Adkins, a University of Pennsylvania School of Design professor, has been awarded the Rome Prize in visual arts.Adkins, an artist and musician, is among 25 awardees who will spend a year studying the arts or humanities at the American Academy in Rome.Adkins’ project, “Flumen Orationis,” Latin for “River of Speech,” will highlight African influence in Rome. Three early popes came from North Africa.

Four From University of Pennsylvania Win 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship Awards
PHILADELPHIA – A trio of University of Pennsylvania professors from the School of Arts and Sciences and a senior critic in Penn’s School of Design have been awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation awarded 180 Fellowships to artists, scientists and scholars in the United States and Canada from a pool of nearly 3,000 applicants.

Two-Day National Conference at Penn to Examine Role of Anchor Institutions in the Revitalization of American Cities
PHILADELPHIA -- The role of anchor institutions in the renaissance of American cities will be discussed at the Urban Anchors in the 21st Century national conference Oct. 8-9. More than 200 urban professionals, scholars, policymakers, students and others will gather at the University of Pennsylvania with more than 60 national experts in urban affairs.

Penn School of Design Professor's Work to be Shown at Venice Biennale's International Art Exhibition
PHILADELPHIA -- Josh Mosley, a professor in the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design, is among the select artists who will show their work at the Venice Biennale's 52nd International Art Exhibition. Mosley is a Penn professor of fine arts, animation and digital media and also a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. He will exhibit his new work, "dread," featuring mixed media animation about philosophers Blaise Pascal and Jean-Jacques Rousseau during a nature walk in which they are not able to resolve their perspectives on the nature of things.
