Penn in the Gulf: Post-Katrina Recovery Efforts Still Needed
WHAT: “Don’t Forget Katrina” is a panel discussion comprised of University of Pennsylvania volunteers from the School of Social Policy and Practice, the School of Nursing, the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Dental Medicine. Penn volunteers will share their assessments of health-related issues in Hancock County, Miss., including whether the water there is safe for human consumption. They will also discuss their personal experiences on the Mississippi coast.WHO:

Michael Bloomberg to Speak at Penn Commencement; Honorees Include Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust

Bloomberg, mayor of New York and founder of Bloomberg, L.P., will deliver the address at the University of Pennsylvania's 252nd Commencement on Monday, May 19.Bloomberg, now in his second term as mayor, is credited with reducing crime and creating jobs in the nation’s most populous city while embarking on a series of ambitious environmental and public-health initiatives.

Former President Bill Clinton to Deliver Opening Address of "Kerner Plus 40" Symposium at Penn Feb. 28
PHILADELPHIA – Former President Bill Clinton will deliver the opening address of the “Kerner Plus 40” Symposium at 11 a.m., Feb. 28, in Irvine Auditorium, 3401 Spruce St., on the University of Pennsylvania campus. A limited number of seats will be reserved for PennCard holders. Tickets, which are free, are required and will be available on a first come-first served basis Feb. 25-26 for PennCard holders only from the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts Box Office, 3680 Walnut St., only one ticket per person.

University of Pennsylvania Honored With National Award for General Community Service
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania is one of three schools nationwide selected to receive the Presidential Award for General Community Service from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The others are Otterbein College in Ohio and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Penn Students Release Briefing Paper on Philadelphia Housing and Community Development Plan
Students in a government-administration class at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania have released a briefing report on Philadelphia housing issues. Copies of the publication, “To Move Ahead: A Briefing Paper on Philadelphia Housing and Community Development Issues,” are being delivered to Mayor Michael Nutter and City Council members. The 98-page narrative report by the Penn students can be viewed at www.fels.upenn.edu/Projects/housing_report_2.6.08.pdf.
