New Book "Kerner Plus 40 Report" Assesses Racial Progress in America Since 1968 Kerner Commission Report
PHILADELPHIA –- The “Kerner Plus 40 Report” is an assessment of how far the nation has come in dealing with racial inequality and tensions 40 years after the seminal report issued by the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, known as the Kerner Commission.

Penn in the Gulf: Post-Katrina Recovery Efforts Still Needed
WHAT: “Don’t Forget Katrina” is a panel discussion comprised of University of Pennsylvania volunteers from the School of Social Policy and Practice, the School of Nursing, the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Dental Medicine. Penn volunteers will share their assessments of health-related issues in Hancock County, Miss., including whether the water there is safe for human consumption. They will also discuss their personal experiences on the Mississippi coast.WHO:

University of Pennsylvania Honored With National Award for General Community Service
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania is one of three schools nationwide selected to receive the Presidential Award for General Community Service from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The others are Otterbein College in Ohio and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Penn Students Release Briefing Paper on Philadelphia Housing and Community Development Plan
Students in a government-administration class at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania have released a briefing report on Philadelphia housing issues. Copies of the publication, “To Move Ahead: A Briefing Paper on Philadelphia Housing and Community Development Issues,” are being delivered to Mayor Michael Nutter and City Council members. The 98-page narrative report by the Penn students can be viewed at www.fels.upenn.edu/Projects/housing_report_2.6.08.pdf.

Lynn Marsden-Atlass Named Director of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA — Lynn Marsden-Atlass, senior curator of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, has been named director of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania, effective March 3. “This is a great day for Penn’s arts and culture community,” Penn Provost Ron Daniels said. “We are indeed fortunate to welcome to Penn a nationally known curator and educator with Lynn’s remarkable range of experience.”

Dean Jeffcoat of Penn Dental in NIH Video Produced to Encourage Young Girls to Consider Careers in Research

Arlene Rivera Finkelstein Named Assistant Dean and Executive Director of Penn Law's Public Interest Center
PHILADELPHIA –- Arlene Rivera Finkelstein has been appointed assistant dean and executive director of the University of Pennsylvania Law School’s Toll Public Interest Center. She will direct Penn Law’s public-interest initiatives, including student pro bono projects. Finkelstein comes to Penn Law from Widener University School of Law, where she was the inaugural director of the Public Interest Resource Center.
