Winning in Style: Stylitics Wins Wharton Business Plan Competition
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 28, 2011--The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced that student team Stylitics won the $30,000 Michelson Grand Prize of the 2011 Wharton Business Plan Competition (http://bpc.wharton.upenn.edu). The prize was awarded at the Wharton School’s annual Venture Finals, April 27, 2011, where student finalists received more than $115,000 in combined cash prizes and in-kind legal/accounting services.

Penn Nursing Signs Memorandum of Understanding With Peking University’s Nursing School
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and the School of Nursing at Peking University in Beijing have established a memorandum of understanding creating a formal research relationship between the schools. Peking University’s School of Nursing, with Guifang Guo as dean, is widely considered the premier nursing school in China.Penn Nursing also has academic partnerships in Botswana and India.

James Martin to Deliver Penn’s 2011 Baccalaureate Address
PHILADELPHIA — The Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest, author and culture editor of America, a national Catholic magazine, will speak at the University of Pennsylvania’s 2011 Baccalaureate ceremonies on Sunday, May 15, in Irvine Auditorium, 3401 Spruce St.Two ceremonies will be held, one at 1:30 p.m. for graduates whose last names begin with A through K and another at 3 p.m. for the L-Z graduates.

Janine Remillard of Penn GSE Named Vice Chair of National Commission for Mathematics Instruction
PHILADELPHIA – Janine Remillard, a professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named vice chair of the U.S. National Commission for Mathematics Instruction for a two-year term. She has served on the commission since 2009.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Speak at Penn for Fifth Global Colloquium of University Presidents
PHILADELPHIA — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will open the fifth annual meeting of the Global Colloquium of University Presidents on Monday, April 4, in a public address at the University of Pennsylvania on empowering women. The Colloquium, a select group of 29 university presidents from around the world, convened annually to discuss a topic of immediate concern to the secretary-general, will address the challenge of “Empowering Women to Change the World: What the UN and Universities Can Do” on April 4-5.
