When hunger pangs strike and you’re face-to-face with snack options, Penn vending machines are now clearly labeled so you can make smarter choices. Items that have less than 250 calories and 350 mg of sodium are marked with a green “Balanced Choices” logo. Healthier snacks include pretzels, fruit snacks, baked potato chips and Fig Newtons.

Penn Women Rowers
Penn’s long history of competitive rowing started in the 1850s when the University’s freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes competed against each other. Nearly 20 years later, with the development of intercollegiate rowing, Penn students founded the College Boat Club. The rowers, all men, began participating in competitive intercollegiate rowing in 1872, one year after Amherst, Brown, Bowdoin and Harvard formed the Rowing Association of American Colleges.

Eco dining
The ground floor of The Radian is getting a new tenant. The eatery Sweetgreen will open its doors late this spring at 3925 Walnut St., serving salads, yogurt and wraps. Sweetgreen offers healthy, eco-conscious dining choices, relying on local and organic farmers for products. All packaging is 100 percent plant-based compostable and all proteins on the menu are hormone- and antibiotic-free. The company offsets 100 percent of its energy with wind energy credits.
