Since we reported on campus building projects back in May, construction has continued at an energetic pace. Here’s an update on what’s opening, what’s closing, who’s moving and where you’ll need to go for your yoga class, your CVS prescription and your Kinkos copies.

Raymond and Ruth Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine—Construction continues on this 360,000 square foot outpatient facility, which will bring together outstanding medical practitioners with state-of-the-art technology to offer advanced treatment options. Phase I of the new Center, opening in early 2008, will encompass Penn’s NCI-designated Abramson Cancer Center, a new cardiology center and an outpatient surgical pavilion.

Condos at 4200 Pine—Campus Apartments is developing this former mansion and onetime Penn administrative building into 27 condos. Seven units have already been pre-sold. An Oct. 6 open house will allow visitors to visit the construction site and see potential units, finishes, material, etc. Go to www.4200pine.com for more information.

The Hub (40th and Chestnut)—Construction continues on this 10-story mixed-use building being developed for new student apartments and retail businesses. The project will open in phases, with all floors slated to be finished by Jan 1.

3900 Walnut Street—First Worthing of Dallas, TX is the developer of this project, and Penn has hired Philadelphia architects Erdy McHenry to design the new space. All of the retailers on the block are operating on month-to-month leases, and prior to construction the retailers will move into new locations. The Philly Diner is relocating to the former College Buffet, while Last Word Books is moving to 40th Street in a converted space design specially for them.

Power Yoga is considering a move to the Hub at 40th Street. CVS has relocated to 3401 & Walnut. College Pizza, University City Review and West Philadelphia Locksmith are moving to 42nd & Chestnut. Kinkos is weighing its options.. Demolition begins this fall, with construction set to begin in early 2007. The project is likely to take 18 to 24 months.

Food Court—The redevelopment of this 20-year-old operation is now complete. CVS has been relocated from 3900 Walnut, providing an on-campus pharmacy close to the Health System.

Skirkanich Hall—The new bioengineering facility is now substantially complete and the School of Engineering plans to hold an Oct. 28 dedication.

Hill Pavilion—Tentatively opening in October 2006, this new teaching and research building for the Vet School will include 120,000 square feet of teaching and research space.
