No one is more deserving of this recognition than Amy Gutmann. She is one of the most highly regarded academic leaders in the world and has led the University of Pennsylvania to new heights of eminence. Amy has been a superb President for Penn and we have total confidence that she will remain fully focused on advancing Penn’s agenda until the conclusion of her time at the University.
Knowing that Amy planned to conclude her Presidency about a year from now after her eighteenth year of leading the University, the Board had already begun its transition planning and we will provide details on that to the University community in the near future. As Amy has said many times herself, we have an exceptional leadership team at Penn, so we are confident that the transition will go smoothly.
President Biden has made a brilliant choice in nominating her for this critical role in American foreign policy. We wish her great success and know that, subject to confirmation, she will be an outstanding Ambassador to Germany.
