Meet Lentil, a canine ambassador for cleft lip and cleft palate
[flickr]72157633364662905[/flickr] Lentil is a French bulldog puppy with a mission. Born with bilateral cleft lips and midline cleft palate, Lentil, at three months old, is nevertheless a “total pistol” who “rules the house,” according to his foster mom Lindsay Condefer.

Support for the arts
Philly nonprofits looking for support for innovative arts and culture projects can get a boost from a new grant program from the University City District. The Porch Partnership Programming Fund is a three-round, $150,000 grant-making effort for local organizations seeking to facilitate arts and culture projects at The Porch at 30th Street Station. The fund is supported by the William Penn Foundation. The fund’s first round of grants will support projects executed between August and October 2013; proposals are due on Friday, May 31.

An international relations and economics major, she grew up on the Island of Hawaii, also known as the Big Island. NIFTY SIXTY: Economy was one of only 60 U.S. students who were recently awarded a Truman Scholarship, which is given annually to college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, nonprofit/advocacy, education, or other forms of public service.

Penn Study Shows National Movement Against Non-Medically Indicated Deliveries Prior to 39 Weeks
A national movement to eliminate non-medically indicated (NMI) delivery before 39 weeks has prompted nearly two-thirds of all U.S. hospitals handling non-emergency births to adopt specific policies against the practice, according to new research from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The results of the nationwide survey represent a strong step in promoting maternal and perinatal health, and reducing the number of infants requiring admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Two Web sites at the University of Pennsylvania have won Webby People’s Voice Awards at the 17th annual Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The IADAS presents two honors — The Webby People's Voice Award and The Webby Award — in each of its five categories: Web Sites, Interactive Advertising & Media, Online Film & Video, Mobile & Apps and Social.
