Penn’s Med Ed Teaches Those Who Teach America’s Doctors
PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine have launched Med Ed, a program to enhance the teaching abilities of those who teach America’s doctors. The collaborative program targeting educational leaders in academic medicine will begin in August.

Penn School of Social Policy & Practice Introduces Community Teamworks Volunteer Program
PHILADELPHIA – The School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania has launched SP2 Community Teamworks, a pilot program that involves local engagement as well as team-building through volunteer projects. Modeled after Goldman Sach’s Community Teamworks in New York City, School of Social Policy & Practice students, faculty, staff and alumni provide suggestions for and participate in local volunteer opportunities.

PennDesign’s Marion Weiss Named an American Institute of Architecture Fellow
PHILADELPHIA – Marion Weiss, professor of architecture in the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, has been selected as a 2012 fellow by the American Institute of Architecture. The Fellowship honors architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession.

Penn Conference Marks Honorary Professorship for W.E.B. Du Bois
PHILADELPHIA – The posthumous recognition of W.E.B. Du Bois as Honorary Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania will be celebrated at a Feb. 17 conference by the Department of Sociology and the Center for Africana Studies. The conference will coincide with the date the Penn Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on the appointment.

RecycleMania 2012 kicks off at Penn
Over the next eight weeks, Penn will compete with more than 600 colleges and universities across the United States and Canada in RecycleMania 2012 to see which schools can most significantly minimize waste streams and achieve the highest recycling rates. Penn has been recycling approximately 30 percent of its paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and metal waste since July 2011. For RecycleMania 2012, the University is aiming to top 32 percent.

Governor Proposes Commonwealth Funding for Penn Vet for 2012-13
PHILADELPHIA -- Governor Tom Corbett’s FY2012-2013 Commonwealth budget proposes funding of $26.7 million for the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, the only veterinary school in Pennsylvania and one of only 28 veterinary schools in the United States. The recommended funding is equal to the support received for FY2011-2012.
