University of Pennsylvania Names Two New PIK Professors: Barbara Mellers and Philip Tetlock
PHILADELPHIA -- Barbara Mellers and Philip Tetlock have been appointed Penn Integrates Knowledge professors at the University of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made today by Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price. Both PIK appointments are effective Jan. 1.

Weightlifting Slashes Lymphedema Risk After Breast Cancer Treatment
(SAN ANTONIO) -- Weightlifting may play a key role in a program to prevent the painful limb-swelling condition lymphedema following breast cancer treatment, according to new research from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Christopher S. Chen Receives Heilmeier Research Award in Penn Engineering
PHILADELPHIA – Christopher S. Chen has been named the recipient of the 2010-11 George H. Heilmeier Faculty Award for Excellence in Research in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania.Chen is the Skirkanich Professor of Innovation in the Department of Bioengineering. He is also a faculty member of the Cell Biology and Physiology Program as well as the Cell Growth and Cancer Program, director of the Tissue Microfabrication Laboratory and founding director of the Center for Engineering Cells and Regeneration.

Penn Astronomer Opens New Window on the Universe’s Past
PHILADELPHIA –- A new instrument designed, built and operated by a collaboration including University of Pennsylvania astronomer James Aguirre and scientists at the California Institute of Technology, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the University of Colorado and Japan's Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, is helping to open new views on a vital epoch of star formation in the early universe, using a convenient natural phenomenon called gravitational lensing. The instrument is Z- Spec.

Sharon Ravitch of Penn’s Graduate School of Education Named Advisor for Haitian Ministry of Education
PHILADELPHIA –- Sharon Ravitch, a senior lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, has been named senior international advisor to the Haitian Ministry of Education for its Education Reconstruction Plan, designed to rebuild the nation’s education system.Creutzer Mathurin, a senior leader in the Ministry, formalized an agreement today at Penn, solidifying Ravitch’s and GSE’s role in rebuilding the Haitian educational infrastructure.
