DPS Advisory Service provides updates about area traffic issues
Traffic around campus can sometimes make it feel like we’re still stuck in the midst of the SEPTA strike. Chestnut and Walnut streets are often backed up for miles, with cars, buses and bikes moving at a snail’s pace. The closure of the South Street Bridge has only intensified the congestion and frustration, and it may be yet another year before the Bridge project is complete.

Penn Center for Africana Studies Hosts Ramsey Lewis as Artist in Residence for Series of Public Master Classes
PHILADELPHIA -- Jazz legend Ramsey Lewis will be the Spring 2010 Artist in Residence for the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Africana Studies. The composer and pianist will visit Penn’s campus March 17-19.Lewis, who has three Grammy Awards and seven gold records, is known for a performance style and musical selections that display his early gospel roots, classical training, love of jazz and fondness for other musical forms.

Double Agents: Penn Researchers Identify Immune Cells That Fight Parasites May Promote Allergies and Asthma
PHILADELPHIA –- Millions of people in both the developing and developed world may benefit from new immune-system research findings from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.The Penn Vet researchers, studying how the immune system operates, have discovered a previously unidentified cell population that may be the body’s double-edged sword, fighting off parasitic infections but also causing the harmful immune responses that can lead to allergies and asthma.

University of Pennsylvania Announces Expansion of Partnership With Peking University
BEIJING -- In a ceremony today on Peking University's campus, the University of Pennsylvania and Peking University announced an agreement recognizing shared academic interests between the two universities. The memorandum of understanding builds on several existing partnerships between the two universities, namely between the Wharton and Guanghua schools of business.

Bioengineer Ravi Desai Wins 2009 JCS Prize From the Journal of Cell Science
PHILADELPHIA –- Ravi Desai, a bioengineering researcher completing his doctoral degree at the University of Pennsylvania, has won the 2009 JCS Prize, awarded annually to the first author of the paper judged best by the editors and editorial board of the Journal of Cell Science. Authors must be students or postdoctoral researchers to be considered for the prize.
