Penn student a contestant on 'Jeopardy! College Championship'
Greg Johnson Answer: “This University of Pennsylvania freshman from Davie, Fla., appeared as a contestant during the Quarter Finals of the ‘Jeopardy! College Championship’ on Wednesday, Feb. 3.” If you asked, “Who is Robert Berg?” you are correct! A fan of the show and loyal viewer, Berg says he began the audition process before arriving at Penn. After completing an online test consisting of 50 random questions, he fared well enough to score a callback audition, which was held in Philadelphia in October.

Penn Will Switch to Direct Lending for Students Taking Out Federal Loans
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania will switch to Direct Lending for graduate and undergraduate students who wish to obtain federal loans for educational costs. The change will take effect with the first summer session for the 2010-11 academic year.Currently, Penn students or their parents who take out loans rely on private lenders in the Federal Family Education Loan Program.

Penn Announces New Family-Friendly Options for Faculty, Staff and Students
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has expanded child-care options and inaugurated a new backup-care initiative. To increase access to child care for Penn employees and community members, the University is partnering with two West Philadelphia child-care providers, the Parent Infant Center and The Caring Center, both are accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania “Global Go To Think Tank Rankings” places the Brookings Institution first among more than 6,300 think tanks evaluated worldwide. The annual report places Chatham House first in a separate category for the best think tanks in the world outside the U.S.

Penn student wins international urbanSHED competition
New York City’s utilitarian, but unsightly construction sheds that protect pedestrians at building sites are getting a makeover because of a Penn School of Design student’s vision. Young-Hwan Choi’s design for the Urban Umbrella beat out 163 competitors to win the American Institute of Architect’s urbanSHED International Design Competition.

Penn Hosting 9th Graders From West Philadelphia, Fitzsimons High Schools on Shadowing Day Feb. 2
WHAT: Shadowing Day, a city-wide program for 9th-grade students in the Philadelphia School District, coordinated by the Philadelphia Youth Network. The visiting students will spend the day learning about the host workplace, the kind of jobs the employees are doing and the education and experience needed to get such jobs. WHO:The staff of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania will host 18 students from Fitzsimons and West Philadelphia High schools.
