A Penn alumnus recently gave a very large gift to support the study of the very small. In August, it was announced that Krishna Singh gave $20 million to the School of Engineering and Applied Science—the single largest gift in the school’s history—to create the Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology. The facility is slated to be 100,000 square feet and will serve as a place for multi-disciplinary research, education and innovation for the campus and the region.

PHILADELPHIA -- Three University of Pennsylvania alumni are in the midst of a cross-country bike race against a four-man team of Bucknell alums to raise $1 million in scholarship funds for each university to support outstanding students from low-income backgrounds.The Bucknell-Penn Alumni Bike Race Across America for Scholarship, believed to be the first such effort by a group of university alumni to raise scholarship funds, is expected to take 19 days.

PHILADELPHIA -- Demetrios Papademetriou, co-founder and president of the Migration Policy Institute, will present the inaugural lecture of the University of Pennsylvania's Program on Democracy, Citizenship and Constitutionalism. The lecture will be on Sept. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Kirby Auditorium of the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St. in Philadelphia, with a reception to follow.
