Penn Medicine Stroke Experts Identify Geographic and Gender Disparities Among Stroke Patients, Demonstrate New App to Optimize Acute Stroke Care
Stroke researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania will unveil a map demonstrating geographic hotspots of increased stroke mortality across the United States, among a series of stroke studies being presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s 66th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, April 26 to May 3, 2014.

Penn Medicine Fellow Receives National Award for Excellence in Interventional Cardiology
The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions Foundation (SCAI) has presented Penn Medicine’s Mitul Kadakia, MD, with the 2014 Gregory Braden Memorial Fellow of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding performance as an interventional cardiology fellow-in-training. The award is only given to one graduating interventional cardiology fellow in the nation.

Penn Student Elected to Society of Women Engineers’ Board of Directors
Nicole Woon, a senior at the University of Pennsylvania, has been elected to the board of directors of the Society of Women Engineers. Founded in 1950, SWE is an international professional, educational and service society that aims to support women’s entry and advancement through engineering careers, an area where they have been historically underrepresented. The society is organized into regional sections, with subdivisions at city and collegiate levels.

Penn poised to roll out more modern data-management systems
In 1979, Penn administrators began deploying a series of systems that would digitally manage a triad of University arteries—Student Billing & Receivables, Academic Records & Registration, and Financial Aid. For more than 35 years, these data management systems have helped deliver critical services to the University’s faculty, staff, and students, ranging from tuition billing and payment, to course registration, enrollment verification, and diploma certification.
