WHAT: Grassroots volunteer efforts to rebuild New Orleans

Students from the University of Pennsylvania are passing up typical spring-break vacation experiences for a week of volunteer activities in New Orleans. Penn’s Fox Leadership in New Orleans Louisiana program, or FLINOLA, is sending the largest contingent of students. Penn student volunteers from NO REST, the School of Design, the Newman Center, Alternate Spring Break, the Campus Crusade for Christ, Civic House and the Hillel-Muslim Students Association will join them.

Ongoing Penn in the Gulf hurricane-relief efforts encompass those in Hancock County, Miss., conducted under the School of Social Policy and Practice’s Feldman Initiative, which also includes the School of Nursing, School of Dental Medicine and School of Engineering and Applied Science. There are also School of Arts and Sciences and School of Design student service projects in New Orleans.
