University Mourns Loss of Henry W. Rogers

Dear Penn undergraduates,

I am so very sorry that my first correspondence with you after Fall Break is to share sad news, but I am writing today to tell you that your classmate, Henry W. Rogers, W’18, died this morning in his residence off campus.

Henry, 22, was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and he was a former captain of the heavyweight rowing team. He was from St. Louis and concentrated in Finance and Marketing. Within Wharton, Henry was part of Shekel Cohort.

A support session will be held Tuesday, October 10th, from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Class of 1949 Auditorium, Houston Hall.

There are absolutely no words that can precisely convey how deeply sad we are as a Penn community to learn of the loss of any student, and I know how painful it is for you to read and absorb this news. However, the Penn family is strong, and I urge you to hold your friends and loved ones close.

We have, as a University community, continued to work closely with student leaders and peer health and wellness groups to provide additional supports for all students. In the coming hours, please let us know how we can comfort you. Many are here for you and for your friends. Talk to a trusted staff member, your academic advisor, a faculty mentor, or a peer counselor. Use the services at CAPS, our cultural resource centers, our Chaplain’s office, your School, or your residential community. Call and check in with your family and friends from home. Share your feelings and reach out to each other with compassion.

Now and always, Penn stands with you. Contact numbers for some of our University resources include the following, so let us help at this time and/or go to anyone else you can trust to let us know how we can support you.
