India Denies Ousting Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen from University Role
Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen spearheaded a yearslong project to re-establish Nalanda University, an ancient center of learning in eastern India that once drew students from across Asia. Now, less than six months after the new Nalanda started operating, Mr. Sen said he would step down from his post as chancellor, citing political interference and saying the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t want him to stay in that role.
