These weren’t exactly the results Pam Horne, the dean of admissions at Purdue University, was expecting: A company billing itself as “the leading provider of research and analysis in higher education” had ranked the best engineering schools in Indiana, and Purdue didn’t even make the top 10 in the state. But an unaccredited, for-profit school was right up there at  No. 3, she said. Not only that, but the Web site offered to help prospective students get more information about schools such as Purdue, displaying the university logo, statistics about performance, and links to request more information, a tour, or apply.
