Why St. Mary’s College of Md. Is Sticking With Its Big Tuition Cut
Last year, St. Mary’s College of Maryland slashed tuition and fees for state residents more than $1,000, the largest price cut in the country for a public four-year school. This year, as state budget troubles are forcing a sudden tuition hike at the University of Maryland, St. Mary’s officials say their school will not follow suit. Tuition and fees at the small liberal arts college will remain $13,824. College officials are hoping these policies will help lure more students to a distinctive school, 70 miles southeast of Washington, that has faced enrollment challenges in the last few years.
