Yale Alters Leave Policy Amid Protest Over a Student Suicide
Yale University on Tuesday said it will amend its leave policies, allowing students more time to declare a leave of absence instead of outright withdrawing, and change its readmission process to ease the transition for students seeking to return to school after taking time off for medical, personal or other reasons. The revision comes as universities nationwide struggle to handle an influx of students seeking psychiatric and psychological support services. Schools are facing challenges in balancing accommodation for those students with long-standing and often rigid enrollment policies, and liability concerns.
