PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania announced today that Penn Park, a $40 million green swath of open space and athletic fields, will replace 14 acres of asphalt parking lots once owned by the United States Postal Service.

The University of Pennsylvania hosted the Feb. 27 inaugural Middle Class Task Force Meeting, chaired by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. The town-hall meeting focused on green jobs.Penn was selected as the site because of the University’s leadership role in sustainability.

 PHILADELPHIA –- Eric Schmidt, whose 28-year career as an Internet strategist, entrepreneur and developer of innovative technologies was capped by his selection as Google chairman and chief executive officer in 2001, will deliver the commencement address at the University of Pennsylvania on Monday, May 18.  

PHILADELPHIA –- University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann and a panel of Penn faculty will explore the causes of the economic and financial crisis, as well as its short- and long-term impacts on the world, at the inaugural David and Lyn Silfen University Forum.

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania is joining more than 400 colleges and universities participating in RecycleMania, a competition for faculty, staff and students designed to encourage both recycling and waste minimization.

PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann will moderate a panel of scholars from across the University as they discuss a sustainable environment as part of Penn’s annual Founder’s Day Symposium, 3-5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Hub, an eight-story, mixed-use apartment building that opened in December 2006 at 40th and Chestnut streets near the University of Pennsylvania campus, is expanding its footprint with the imminent construction of Hub 3939, next door at 3939 Chestnut St.
