University of Pennsylvania Professor Ian McHarg Awarded The Science and Technology Foundation's Japan Prize
PHILADELPHIA--Ian L. McHarg, an Emeritus Professor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, has been awarded the Japan Prize in city planning. He and his wife will travel to Tokyo in April 2000 to receive the award.

University of Pennsylvania Deploys Supercomputer to Help Unravel Problems in Gene Therapy, Ozone Depletion
PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania has installed an IBM supercomputer to help solve some of humanity most perplexing problems, such as research on gene therapy, AIDS accessory proteins and atmospheric ozone depletion. The RS/6000 SP supercomputer is twice as powerful as the IBM Deep Blue supercomputer that defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov.

May graduate Mackenzie Fierceton from St. Louis been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship for graduate study at the University of Oxford in England. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and is currently completing her master’s degree in clinical social work.
