Kenneth Goldsmith, a faculty member with Penn’s Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing, was invited to read at “An Evening of Poetry” at the White House on May 11.
The event was a celebration of American poetry and prose that featured writers, musicians and artists, as well as students from across the country. In addition to Goldsmith, the guests included poets Elizabeth Alexander, Rita Dove and Billy Collins; hip-hop artist Common; artist Alison Knowles and musicians Aimee Mann and Jill Scott. The performers read, sang and showcased the impact of poetry on American culture.
