Nestled in the Fisher Fine Arts Library, the Arthur Ross Gallery (ARG) is a campus gem featuring world-class art exhibitions in an intimate setting. 

The Gallery has redesigned its space to accommodate its latest exhibit, “An American Odyssey: The Warner Collection of American Art,” which consists of 63 paintings chronicling the American experience from 1799-1971 in portraits, still life and landscapes. 

Drawn from the private collection of Jonathan “Jack” Warner, his wife, Susan Austin Warner, and the Warner Foundation, the exhibit includes works by Albert Bierstadt, Mary Cassatt, Frederic E. Church, Thomas Cole, Childe Hassam, Winslow Homer, James Peale and Andrew Wyeth.

The ARG is opening its members-only reception to Penn staff and faculty on Friday, Sept. 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Speakers include Provost Vincent Price and the collector Jonathan “Jack” Warner.

In addition, the ARG has launched its first cell phone audio tour.

“Painting-by-painting, you can press a button and hear the collector’s own reflections and personal insights on each individual piece,” says ARG Director Lynn Marsden-Atlass. “It is only the second time this collection has been on view outside of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and it’s a unique opportunity for the Penn community to see one of the most important private collections of American art.”
