Party on

On Thursday, Dec. 6, the Penn Museum celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founding with a free community open house from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors are invited to meet the curators, collections keepers, conservators, archivists, archaeologists, anthropologists, and researchers of the Penn Museum, as well as listen to reports from the field, and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the storage collection. That night, Penn graduate students will offer flashlight tours of the ancient Egyptian and Mediterranean galleries. There will also be complimentary hot apple cider and cookies throughout the day in the Museum’s Pepper Mill Cafe.

This season, the Museum Shop is featuring T-shirts, coffee mugs, pint glasses, and shot glasses printed with “I’m Going to Party Like It’s 13.0.0.0.0,” a reference to the supposed Maya prediction of the end of the world. From Dec. 5 through Dec. 9, the Museum Shop and Pyramid Shop are offering a 10 percent discount for all shoppers; 15 percent for Penn, Health System, and Children’s Hospital staff and students; and 20 percent for Penn Museum members.
