A message to the Penn community on suspension of normal university operations for the Philadelphia Eagles victory parade

The City of Philadelphia is expecting sizable crowds of people to attend this Friday’s parade to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles decisive Super Bowl victory (approximately 3 million attended the last Eagles Super Bowl parade in 2018). This event will come with significant logistical and transportation challenges that will impact our entire community. Both SEPTA and PATCO have issued advisories that will substantially modify service on Friday in order to accommodate people traveling to the City to view the parade. (See current information here.)

The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and patients is always our number one goal. With this in mind, the University will suspend normal operations on Friday, February 14, 2025. As a result, all classes and University-sponsored events are cancelled on this date.

When University normal operations are suspended, employees are generally not expected to work unless they are designated essential.

Essential University staff for critical campus operations and life sustaining operations and all Health System physicians and staff are required to report to work at their regularly scheduled start time. Participants in academic clinical programs may also be expected to report, please confirm with your program administrator. Please consult with your supervisor should you have any questions.

With the prior approval of the Senior Executive Vice President and Provost and advance notification to employees, fully online academic programs, executive format programs, and/or programs that operate from a different geographic location may follow different closing decisions. Check with your program administrator should you have any questions. For details, review the policy Suspension of Normal Operations (upenn.edu)

Should you choose to attend the parade, please keep in mind the changes to public transportation and road closures that will impact access to Center City and West Philadelphia. More information is available on the Eagles website.  We encourage everyone to stay safe, act responsibly and be respectful of our campus and surrounding community as we all celebrate this great moment together as ambassadors for Penn.

And Fly, Eagles, Fly!
