Printing Abolition
Michael F. Suarez, director of the Rare Book School and a professor at the University of Virginia, delivers the 2020 Rosenbach Lectures. Accompanied by illustrations, Suarez will explain the lead-up to the fight to end the British slave trade and the involvement of print, ranging from letters to pamphlets. In three lectures, Saurez considers, among other ideas, the first humanitarian mass media movement, how abolitionist print was distributed, and considers lives and labors left out of previous historical accounts. Update: This event has been postponed until Fall 2020.
