'Artifacts, Massacres and Dinner Parties' Exhibit
Working primarily in graphite and creating large, detailed drawings, Julie Saecker Schneider of the School of Design has put together “Artifacts, Massacres, and Dinner Parties” at the Charles Addams Fine Arts Gallery.
The exhibit, which runs until June 22, features some of her work recontextualizing myths and the physical description of memory.
The works by Schneider, the Fine Arts undergraduate director who is retiring July 31, include drawings showing her deep interest in the human form. Her works include drawings of body builders, and her Medusa series features students, businesswomen and children posing to present Medusa at different ages and guises.
The drawings of dried roses are of flowers that Schneider saved from dinner parties. The dead roses are her metaphor for memory, as reminders of the gatherings that she hosted featuring “good food, good friends and good conversations.”
The gallery,at 36th and Walnut streets, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
