Penn Creates M.I. GREEN to Help Students Live Green
PHILADELPHIA –- As new students from around the country and the globe move in to their new residence halls at the University of Pennsylvania this week, they are being greeted with a new program to help them “green” their new home away from home.
As part of Penn’s Green Campus Partnership, a campaign to reduce the University’s carbon footprint and enhance its overall sustainability practices, Penn created M.I. GREEN.
This initiative encourages returning Penn students to move to campus early and volunteer to educate incoming students on participation in Penn’s sustainability initiatives by conserving energy, recycling, supporting local food suppliers and joining one of the many green groups on campus.
A contingent of 35 M.I. GREEN volunteers are helping to manage green education programs across campus through Monday, Sept. 5th.
The volunteers are stationed outside residence halls in what is believed to be the only fully developed program in the nation to help students transition to a greener way to live on campus.
