The University of Pennsylvania Division of Public Safety will hold its annual Open House on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 4040 Chestnut St.

Visitors can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the PennComm Operations Center, which serves as the command and control center for the public safety operation and take a turn on the firearm training simulator. 

Used for police officer training, the simulator tests instincts and response to scenarios that may require the use of deadly force.

“We invite the Penn community and the public to come and see why our public safety team has been recognized for six years in a row as the No. 1 program in the nation’s higher education market by Security Magazine,” Maureen S. Rush, Penn’s vice president for public safety, said.  “This is an opportunity for everyone to get a look at exactly what we do here and to get a better understanding of how we all can work together to be partners in safety.”

During the event, the public can meet and interact with members of the public safety team and get an overview of the services provided for the community.

Also, visitors can check out the latest in law-enforcement vehicles, including Harley Davidson motorcycles and the T-3 electric security officer vehicles.

Light refreshments will be served.
